DTV in the US in 2009...good or bad idea?

Good idea or bad idea? I saw the commercial for it, and some TV's will not get a signal unless you connect them to special devices. I guess the only drawback I see is that you have to spend extra money on the devices, and who knows how much they cost.

What I liked about analog broadcasting was that you could get a few channels on your TV even if you didn't have an antenna.

And anyways most people have cable

great idea.. who uses analog still anyways?!?!?! And if you still are, u deserve to not be watching come Feb 2009, get with the times!!! geez

Well, where I am at at the moment we have digital cable, BUT, I do not have a digital ready TV as of yet. By 2009, oh **** yea, I know that I will have a LCD/Plasma TV and all so bring it on!!!!!

The reason for the change is because the firefighters,police and first responders use analog to communicate.Apparently,The TV signals are getting in the way from time to time.

When my cable company was doing work on my block I had to use an aerial to recieve any local TV stations for a day or two and I could hear from time to time blurred messages on my TV.

Yes the change is good.

You can get a $20 or $25USD discount on the digital converter from the government.Ask your local electronics store about it,if you're not ready for the change.Digital converter boxes are around $60USD.

I heard from a commercial that they are running here in the US that if you have a "normal" TV and it is hooked up to a cable box, you will be fine. It's the televisions that are not hooked up to anything except a open air antenna that will have problems.

I still need to get rid of my tube TV and get an LCD TV

DIRECTV has been all-digital for years. If you've got DIRECTV you don't have to worry about losing any channels, buying a converter, or buying a new TV.

I'm indifferent on this topic. I think its being made into a bigger deal than it should be. My thoughts.... Things change; get over it.

i don't buy cable or satallite tv...so i am guessing i'm sol unless i get the converter box....i had thought since my hdtv is only about 2 years old i'd be ok when the switch happens but at this point i'm not sure.
