software vs hardware you decide????

Hi ,

The question is do you think software is winning the hardware wars?

Can traktor or serato ever replace cdj's and a mixer setup?

Would love to hear all your feedback regarding new skool vs old skool .

Its only a few short years ago that people were asking can cdj's ever replace vinyl. Now its rare you see djs playing vinyl. I would say both software and cdj is a great economic solution. I would doubt software will have such a powerful effect as cdj when it came along to challenge vinyl, simply because a small case of cds is not much different to carrying around a laptop computer and controler. And both do a great job, though some kind of controler is best to control your software effects in my opinion

I fairly new to djing and never got the chance to play with vinyl.

Pesonal i think CDJ are more or less the same as Traktor and the other software programs. I mean they tell you a BPM read out as do the Traktor.

But if you have to ask what one i'll choose then has to be the CDJ i think.

Correct, that's why I ordered myself timecoded vinyls (still waiting them to arrive though )

So I'm not really sure what to vote here , started with vinyls but they got too expensive for student (and availability became poor too) then moved to software with hardware mixer and now will have timecoded vinyls setup . So software with hardware mixer and vinyls I guess

Well Ive only ever mixed with software and a midi controller so I couldn't say, but would like to get some CDJs soon. It's just a case of whether or not i can justify spending the money because im coping fine with my current setup, and if I were to get CDJs then it would be some CDJ1000 mk3's and a DJM400/800 so I don't know if i can justify the expense yet.

There's no feeling like playing on CDJ's & a mixer. You feel you have 100% control under your hands. Vinyl is the same but not practical these days & expensive.

Unless you use timecoded vinyls then it won't be that expensive anymore
