Lightbulb To BUCKET! or not to BUCKET! That is the question.

I've mention this to Dan and in a couple of places in the threads. I'd like to propose that Dan add a new category to the music thread polls, BUCKET! Also, to use "Not my style" for exactly what it says, it's just flat not the style of EDM that I like.

BUCKET! is the exact opposite of MASSIVE!, whereas "No thanks, not my style" just is not. It doesn't express displeasure, but is being used to do so. It just doesn't make sense to use it to express displeasure because that's not what it SAYS. It should MEAN what it SAYS.

BUCKET!, on the other hand, absolutely DOES express displeasure, and is much less insulting than "It sucks! Get it off the playlist!". BUCKET! is the correct balance to MASSIVE!

So the poll list would be as follows:

MASSIVE!
Good
Decent
Pretty bad
BUCKET!
No thanks, not my style

So ... what do you all think?

Should Dan add "BUCKET!" as the opposite to "MASSIVE!" and let "No thanks, not my style" mean what it says? Or should he leave it the way that it is?

undecided yet... so far i've always used "pretty bad" on sets, which in theory should be my style, but i didn't like at all. while i used "not my style" for sets i don't like because i generally don't like that kinda stuff, such as full vocal sets, or minimal, electro etc. so on one hand having a bucket option would make sense as you describe it, but on the other hand the current poll options also make sense.

At the End i would prefer NO VOTING

the best indicator is the number of listeners and the number of members in the Showthread and their comments...the voting is just an add on but means not so much as some ppl believe in coz honesty is maybe a unknowen word for some ppl ....
...
...and...
BUCKET means really nothing nice in my mind....bucket is one of those joke words for something bad...so i dont think that it is needfull to make DJs and Producers ANGRY coz this could mean in final that the DJ say to DAN that he didnt need that and leave AH...other will see that, hear that and will leave too and some will never come and so its no good for AH to have such things arround.

everybody has the right to write in the showthread what he/she didnt like and, its a free world, to tune out the show and come back to the shows he/she likes more....to "bucket" the DJ is defame him and for sure i personally wouldn't like to be defamed.

So in final i think this has no need

cheers

PS: Remember the "Together we Unite" Thread
PPS: I think some PPL have to much time atm ;)
PPPS: Ah is simply the best and gets better day by day so no need to change things DAN and Staff decided to do
PPPPS: lalalalalaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

I don't agree with you on this. While number of listeners is a good indicator, I don't think you can use the number of members in the showthread as an indicator. Someone maybe just listening on the go, or busy doing something else and not posting in the showthread.

On the actual poll topic, I think it is fine as it is. Pretty bad option is good enough to get the point across. It wouldn't be nice to receive votes as "bucket".

Not a fan of the 'bucket' option actually. I think 'Pretty Bad' is the opposite of 'Massive' already.. Also 'bucket' really has something in it that can be experienced as offensive for some dj's. I follow JayCan's point in that.
I DO think the poll has a very important role though, even when i think the importance has become less since the votings went public. There are always people listening to shows who don't want/dare to say their true feelings about a set directly to the dj, in those cases anonymous polls are a big plus. I don't think the number of members in the thread is not that representative either. Timeslot and promotion is a very important thing in that.

Comments , good or bad, are to me worth the most in this. Especially if you see a member making his first post to say a set was massive.. that really means a lot for a dj. Comments by any member are important in these showthreads, really.

I don't agree with you all about "pretty bad". I've used "pretty bad" to indicate just that; it's pretty bad, but not total trash. The use of the word "pretty" lessens the impact of the "bad". It's, well, a wimpy way to say something is just plain bad. Plus, the fact that it's not CAPPED and doesn't have the "!", again, lessens the meaning and impact. "Pretty bad" is NOT the opposite of "MASSIVE!". Not in meaning, and not in style, and definitely not in impact.

I'd go with "JUST PLAIN BAD!" with "Pretty bad" just ahead of it. I thought that "BUCKET!" was a rather cute and inoffensive way of saying "JUST PLAIN BAD!"

Let's face it, if a DJ can't stand to read that his/her set was really bad, then he/she is entirely too "sensitive" and should step away from the decks and take up something else that engenders zero criticism. Can't stand the heat? Then don't cook.

I'm a programmer. Been doing it for 35 years. When my programs are buggy or unattractive or too difficult to use, people tell me that they suck, that it's the worst thing they've ever used, that it would take a PHD to figure out how to run it. My response to those critical comments is, "Really? No shit? Why, exactly? What would you rather it did/looked like? What would make it easier to use?"

I don't whine and complain about the way they voiced their opinions. I extract the information out of the comments and I fix it. I make it what they want. Not what I think that they want or need, but exactly what they want and need.

Then, when it's all done, and they say, "Wow! That's as handy as a pocket! It's so easy to use, my kid could run it! The results/data/reports are like a work of art!", I smile and say, "Thank you." Then I walk away and think to myself, "Heh, heh, heh. I rule."

And oh by the way, I'm a damned fine cook.

for me, "not my style" is actually the opposite of "massive", or just a nicer way of saying "total crap". i don't think it's necessary to differentiate why you didn't like it at all.

what would 'Bucket' imply?
you throw rubbish in it or a couple of minutes of music makes you lose control over certain body functions?
absolutely agree with Margoss AND as long as I'm not able to deliver something better I don't have any expertise whatsoever in criticising that harsh.

on a sidenote:-
going further up, I'd like a 'very good' (which up to now I've stated in posts).
'Good' is often not good enough whereas 'Massive' is the absolute superlative, the blows-me-away one, the please-don't-ever-end-can't-get-enough one.
Those tracks/sets are rare. but that's just my two pennies...

I wonder, how many sets on AH u ppl can "send to bucket"? 1\100? 1\50 (1\10? OMG )
How often will ppl use this vote? I rarely see "pretty bad" votes here,
(I've voted #4 for 1 time only, missclick, wanted to press "not my style" )
50% of all the sets are nice Imho, this option will be useless If u can notice some serious mistakes in a show, or u rly think its crap,
it'll better to comment on the show, or pm DJ
just my 2 cents

Hi everyone

i think "BUCKET" would be a good way to express displeasure, but doesn't it offend the DJ a bit?

Allthough you're right cat, there should be a direct contrary to "MASSIVE" so i voted pro-bucket

I don't think we really need the Bucket option for reasons I've outlined below, I guess you could say these are my criteria/definition for when I cast my votes. The term 'Bucket' was kinda coined when some members took a disliking to vocal tracks, which of course is a matter of personal taste and can easily be incorporated into the current voting system in my opinion....

MASSIVE!
Clearly this one is for those sets the you enjoy the most, ones that blow you away
Good
A show that has some great moments that keeps you entertained
Decent
Maybe doesn't entrall you throughout the show but enough good tracks in your taste not to fall into the 'not my style' category
Pretty bad
If anything this would be one I would drop for the reason that to keep the quality of shows high, we wouldn't air bad shows. I can't say I have heard a show that warranted a bad vote, but there will be some that fall into the next category because personal tastes differ.
No thanks, not my style
Says it all really, I guess once you have listened to a show that you didnt particularly enjoy, you wouldn't keep on listening to the show every week/month etc maybe once in a while to see how the show has changed, if at all.
